Methodist Receives Cans Across the Conference Trophy

January 29, 2005 – Along with collecting more than 2,300 canned food items, Methodist also picked up the inaugural Cans Across the Conference championship this fall.  Saturday members of the MC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee were on-hand at the Monarchs' men's basketball game to accept their trophy.  USA South Sports Information Director and SAAC Advisor Sarah Jamieson presented the Cans Across the Conference championship trophy at halftime of the game.

In the fall of 2004, the USA South Student-Athlete Advisory Committee established a Conference-wide canned food drive.  A competition was set up amongst the eight schools to benefit local charities.  Each campus SAAC determined a plan for the collection of canned food items and selected a charity organization to receive the food.  The school collecting the most items during the six-week period would be the Cans Across the Conference champion.

Throughout the Conference, more than 9,000 items were collected and donated to organizations for distribution to needy families and individuals.  Methodist won the first-ever Cans Across the Conference championship.  The Monarch SAAC organized a intra-departmental competition, giving a pizza party to the women's soccer team, who collected the most items.  MC donated their non-perishable goods to the Fayetteville Salvation Army to use during the holiday season.
