Greensboro College Receives Cans Acrosse the Conference Cup

(GREENSBORO, N.C.) - Along with collecting more than 3,863 canned food items, Greensboro College also picked up the second annual Cans Across the Conference championship this fall.  On February 17, 2006 members of the Greensboro Student-Athlete Advisory Committee were on-hand at The Pride's women's basketball game to accept their trophy.  USA South Sports Information Director Cory M. Blackson presented the Cans Across the Conference championship trophy at halftime of the game.

In the fall of 2004, the USA South Student-Athlete Advisory Committee established a Conference-wide canned food drive.  A competition was set up amongst the eight schools to benefit local charities.  Each campus SAAC determined a plan for the collection of canned food items and selected a charity organization to receive the food.  The school collecting the most items during the six-week period would be the Cans Across the Conference champion.

During the 2005 campaign 16,619 items were collected and donated to organizations for distribution to needy families and individuals.  Greensboro won the second-ever Cans Across the Conference championship after collecting 3,863 items.  The Pride utilized their football game with cross-town rival Guilford College where admission was donation of cans and nonperishable items.  Greensboro donated their non-perishable goods to the Greensboro Urban Ministry to use during the holiday season.
