                                                      Greensboro Offers Youth Sports Day

May 20, 2004 -
Approximately 70 students from nearby Washington Elementary School descended on the Greensboro College campus for interaction with Pride student-athletes  The fifth grade students moved from station-to-station on campus and at the Royce Reynolds Family Student Life Center.  Members of Pride football, basketball and soccer teams offered basic instruction on their respective sports.

"This is a great way for our student-athletes to give back to the community," said Jonathan Dudley, President of GC's Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC)-sponsor of the event. "Also, being part of an athletic team can keep you out of trouble, develop leadership skills and help you make many friends. If we can open the door for a future in college for at least one person, then the program is a success."

The program was part of the Healthy Community/Healthy Youth outreach. The project was also organized in conjunction with Village 401, an initiative that emphasizes the college's commitment to serving the needs of the surrounding community sharing its ZIP code, 27401.
