"The Special Olympics Unity Cup was a huge success," said Greensboro men's soccer coach and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) coordinator John Trice. "This was a phenomenal opportunity for Greensboro College athletes to team up with Guilford College & Special Olympics Greensboro to put on a fantastic day of competition. No matter what level athletes are competing at, there are certain characteristics you hope are exhibited: passion, determination and sportsmanship -- these were all visible at the event."
Trice added that, "Greensboro College athletics looks forward to continuing to develop & enhance our relationship with Special Olympics Greensboro as these ties to our community is what makes our school Uniquely Greensboro!"
Greensboro Athletes Volunteer With Special Olympics Unity Cup
(GREENSBORO, NC) - Student-athletes from Greensboro College and Guilford College came together to volunteer with the Special Olympics Unity Cup on Saturday. The event welcomed athletes from the Greensboro-High Point sector of the Special Olympics.
The day began with a circuit of events, including basketball,
volleyball and kickball. The main event of the afternoon was the
first annual Unity Cup soccer match. Members of both the Greensboro
and Guilford men's and women's soccer squads teamed up with Special
Olympic athletes.
In a back-and-forth contest, Greensboro came out on top,
taking home the Unity Cup trophy. In the end, however, it was not
the final score that mattered but the camaraderie between students
from both colleges and Special Olympic athletes.

Greensboro College athletic teams have participated in
numerous Special Olympic events over the course of the year. The
event was part of a SAAC iniative that reflects the partnership
between NCAA Division III and the Special Olympics.
Trice added that, "Greensboro College athletics looks forward to continuing to develop & enhance our relationship with Special Olympics Greensboro as these ties to our community is what makes our school Uniquely Greensboro!"
