Christopher Newport Receives USA South President's Cups

(NEWPORT NEWS, VA) - The USA South Athletic Conference recently presented its three President's Cups to Christopher Newport University at the Captains' football game versus Ferrum on Saturday, October 6. USA South Commissioner Rita Wiggs was on hand to present the awards to CNU President Paul S. Trible Jr., men's soccer student-athlete Michael Zimmerman and women's lacrosse student-athlete Stephanie Green.

The USA South President's Cup symbolizes the league's top men's and women's athletic program each year. Christopher Newport captured 11 conference regular season championships, six on the women's side and five on the men's side, during the 2011-12 academic season. This is the seventh consecutive Overall President's Cup and Women's President's Cup for the Captains. The Men's President's Cup is the sixth straight for the CNU program.

"We are so proud of our student-athletes for all that they accomplished both in competition and in the classroom during the 2011-12 season," Jon Waters, Christopher Newport Interim Director of Athletics said. "It is an honor for our University to earn this award among the many strong programs in the USA South Athletic Conference."
