USA South Presents Woman of the Year Award
(ROCKY MOUNT, NC) - The NCAA Woman of the Year award honors student-athletes for their collegiate achievements in service, leadership, athletics and academics. The USA South Athletic Conference's 2012 Woman of the Year and nominee for the NCAA award is former N.C. Wesleyan College volleyball student-athlete Mackenzie Tingle. USA South Commissioner Rita Wiggs recently presented Tingle with the award at the Bishops' football game versus Methodist on Saturday, October 6.
"It's quite an honor to be recognized not only for my athletic achievements, but also for my extra work in the classroom and in the community," Tingle shared. "I'd like to thank Commissioner Wiggs and the USA South Athletic Conference for this very special award. I couldn't have done it without the support of my professors, coaches, teammates and family."
Tingle concluded her collegiate career as the starting setter on the Bishop volleyball team. She was a four-time All-Conference performer earning first team honors three times and third team accolades once. In 2008, Tingle was named USA South Rookie of the Year and earned 2011-12 N.C. Wesleyan Athlete of the Year honors. She finished her career ranked second all-time in assists and is only one of two players to garner All-Conference accolades on four occasions in her sport at N.C. Wesleyan.
Off the court, Tingle amassed a 3.52 GPA while majoring in both Sociology and Psychology while minoring in Biology. She appeared on both the N.C. Wesleyan President's List and the USA South All-Academic All-Conference Team each of her four years on campus.
Tingle's service and leadership resume is a very impressive one. She committed approximately 750 hours to projects and organizations both on the N.C. Wesleyan campus and within the city of Rocky Mount. Just a few examples of Tingle's dedication include her multi-term Presidency of the N.C. Wesleyan Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), reading to children at local elementary schools, volunteering at multiple non-profit organizational fundraising activities and assisting with events such as the American Red Cross Hero Campaign.
