Lacrosse Awards Announced

April 14, 2005 – The USA South Athletic Conference has announced its All-Conference awards for lacrosse.  Christopher Newport, Greensboro and Shenandoah led the way with eight members each.  Methodist's Lauren McGonagle has been named the Player of the Year as teammate Katelyn Cushman is the Rookie of the Year.  Christopher Newport head coach Kwame Lloyd is the 2005 Coach of the Year. 

McGonagle, a sophomore from South Burlington, Vt., was first in the conference in; goals per game, assists per game, points per game and shots per game..  She was instrumental in the finishing third in the conference, as they posted a 7-8 overall record and 3-2 in the USA South.  McGonagle recorded 33 goals and 29 assists on the year.  This marks her second consecutive year receiving First Team All-Conference as she earned First Team last year.

A freshman from Bennington, Vt., Cushman recorded 20 goals and 3 assists this past season.  She helped the Monarchs earn a third seed in the upcoming tournament as they finished 3-2 in the Conference and 7-8 overall. 

Lloyd, in his fourth year at the helm of the Lady Captains, led the team to their second straight Conference title.  They finished 7-8 overall, including 5-0 in the USA South.  This is the second time in Lloyd's four years at Christopher Newport that he has won the USA South Coach of the Year honors.
