CNU Picked First in Softball Pre-Season Poll

February 2, 2005 - The USA South Athletic Conference has announced the results of its 2005 softball pre-season poll.  Christopher Newport beat out Methodist by one point for the top spot in the poll, voted on by the coach at each school.  The Captains won the 2004 regular season title after going 15-1 in Conference action.  CNU finished the year 36-7 overall.  The Monarchs were runners-up in last year's regular season, finishing 30-14 overall and 12-4 in the USA South.  The 2004 tournament champion, Averett, tied Ferrum for the third spot in this year's coaches poll.
