Women's Tennis Awards Announced
April 14, 2005 – The USA South Athletic Conference has
announced its All-Conference awards for women's tennis. Methodist
and Christopher Newport led
the way with six and five members respectively. Averett's Kirsi
Turunen has been named the Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year.
Methodist coach Kelly Callahan was named the 2005
Coach of the Year.
Turunen, a freshman from Turku, Finland was an impressive 13-0 overall
and 7-0 in conference at #1 singles. At #1 doubles she was 8-2
overall and 5-2 in conference play. She helped Averett to 4-9
overall record and 3-4 in the conference.
Callahan in her second year at the helm of the Monarchs has been tabbed
the Coach of the Year for the second consecutive year. She led the
Monarchs to the regular season title with a record of 13-2 overall and
8-0 in conference action.
