Ferrum Picked to Win 2006 USA South Football Title

(FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.) - Ferrum College, under the direction of 13th-year Head Coach Dave Davis, was picked in the preseason coaches' poll to win the USA South Athletic Conference football title in 2006.  The Panthers have claimed three USA South titles, sharing the title in 2001, 2002 and in 2005.

Ferrum received four of eight first place votes (46 points) as head coaches do not vote for their own teams in the balloting.

Christopher Newport University, the 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004 co-champions, finished second in the balloting with 44 points and three first place votes.  Averett University and 2005 co-champion Methodist College both tied for third place with 35 points.  The Cougars picked up one first place vote also.

On Tuesday, August 1 Christopher Newport will host the sixth annual USA South Football Media Day at the Ford's Colony in Williamsburg, Va. as the event will kickoff at 10:30 a.m.

The 2006 USA South football schedule kicks-off on Thursday, August 31 when Shenandoah hosts Catholic University of America at 7:30 p.m. in Shentel Stadium.
