USA South Men's Soccer Awards Announced
(FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.) -
The USA South Athletic
Conference has announced its All-Conference awards for men's soccer. A
total of 35 student-athletes have been named to the USA South
All-Conference teams. Christopher
Newport swept all of the individual awards as Daniel Fogarty has been named the Player of the
Year, Matt Tengs is the Rookie of the Year and head
coach Steve Shaw, is the Coach of the Year.
Fogarty, a senior midfielder from Yorktown, Virginia helped lead the
Captains offense this fall.
This is Fogarty's second consecutive First Team All-Conference honor. On
the year, Fogarty tallied 28 points on 11 goals and six assists with
three game winning goals.
Tengs, a Springfield, Virginia freshman goalkeeper, backstopped the
Captain defense between the posts. He played and started 13 games
compiling a save percentage of .806 and a goals against average of 0.90.
Tengs was also tied for the top spot in the league with six shutouts.
Shaw, in his 11th-year as the head of the Captains, took his team to their
fourth regular season title in the last seven years. The team finished
the regular season with an overall record of 13-4-1, including
an unbeaten mark of 5-0-1 in USA South play.
