Christopher Newport
Picked to Win USA South Men's Soccer Title
(FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.) - Christopher Newport
University, under the direction of
tenth-year Head Coach Steve Shaw,
was picked in the preseason coaches' poll to win the USA South Athletic
Conference men's soccer title in 2006. The Captains will be
looking to capture their first title since 2003.
Christopher Newport received five of seven first place votes (35 points)
as head coaches do not vote for their own teams in the balloting.
Defending regular season champions N.C. Wesleyan College finished second in the balloting with 30 points and
two first place
votes. Greensboro College
rounded out the top-three as the Pride collected 24 points.
The men's soccer regular season gets underway on Friday, September 1
when Christopher Newport, Ferrum College and Methodist College each
travel to various tournaments.
