Methodist Picked as USA South Softball Favorite

(FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.) - Methodist College, under the direction of eighth-year Head Coach Ron Simpson, was picked to win the USA South Athletic Conference 2006 softball title in the preseason coaches' poll.  The Monarchs were the conference regular season champions in 2005.

Methodist received six of eight first-place votes (48 points) as head coaches do not vote for their own teams in the balloting.

Christopher Newport University finished second in the balloting as the Captains received 38 points and one first-place vote.  Greensboro College rounded out the top-three as The Pride collected 35 points.

The 2006 USA South Softball Tournament will played at Springwood Park in Burlington, N.C. on April 13-15.
