Methodist Picked to Defend Both Men's and Women's USA South Tennis Titles

(FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.) - Methodist College was chosen to win the 2006 USA South Athletic Conference tennis title on both the men's and women's side as the Conference released the preseason coaches' poll on Wednesday.

The Methodist men, under second-year Head Coach Eddie Luck, received six of seven first-place votes (36 points) as head coaches do not vote for their own teams in the balloting.

Christopher Newport University finished second in the balloting with 30 points and one first-place vote.  Averett University rounded out the top-three as the Cougars collected 23 points.

The Methodist women, under first-year Head Coach Francie Barragan received seven of eight first-place votes and 49 total points.

Christopher Newport University finished second in the balloting with 41 points and one first-place vote.  Greensboro College rounded out the top-three as the The Pride collected 34 points.

The 2006 USA South Men's and Women's Tournament will played at the Burlington Tennis Center in Burlington, N.C. on April 13-15.
