Christopher Newport Picked to Defend
USA South Women's Soccer Title
(FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.) - Christopher Newport
University, under the direction of sixth-year Head Coach Kwame Lloyd,
was picked in the preseason coaches' poll to win the USA South Athletic
Conference women's soccer title in 2006. The Captains, are the
four-time defending champions of the USA South regular season.
Christopher Newport received seven of eight first place votes (49 points)
as head coaches do not vote for their own teams in the balloting.
Greensboro College and
Methodist College finished tied for second in the balloting with 39
points apiece as the Pride received the final first place vote.
Following those two teams, in a tie for fourth, were N.C. Wesleyan
College and Shenandoah University who each received 29 points.
The women's regular season gets underway on Friday, September 1
when Averett University travels to Hollins and Shenandoah hosts
Bridgewater (Va.).
