USA South Women's Soccer Tournament First Round Action

(FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.) - The 2006 USA South Women's Soccer Tournament has begun with all first round games being played on Tuesday, Oct. 31. Top-seeded Methodist had little difficulty, defeating eighth-seeded Peace, 10-0. Second-seeded Greensboro used two second half goals to get by seventh-seeded Shenandoah, 2-0. Third-seeded Christopher Newport breezed past sixth-seeded N.C. Wesleyan, 5-0. Finally, fourth-seeded Averett needed double overtime to defeat fifth-seeded Ferrum, 1-0.

The tournament now shifts to Methodist College on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 3-4, as the top-seeded Monarchs host the semifinals and finals. On Friday, Christopher Newport will battle Greensboro in the first game at 11:30 p.m., followed by Averett taking on Methodist at 2:30 p.m. The championship game will be the following day at 2:00 p.m.
