Christopher Newport Wins USA South Women's Soccer Tournament Championship

(FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.) - The 2006 USA South Women's Soccer Tournament concluded Saturday, Nov. 4 with Christopher Newport University defeating Methodist College by way of penalty kicks. The Captains and Monarchs played to a 2-2, double overtime, tie before having to decide the championship with penalty kicks. Christopher Newport hit three of its five kicks while Methodist hit only two. With the victory, the Captains receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Christopher Newport now will host Virginia Wesleyan on Nov. 10 in the first round of the tournament. Also, receiving an at-large bid, is Methodist, who will travel to face Maryville on Nov. 11 in first round action.
