Humphrey Leads USA South Over ODAC Seniors

SALEM, Va. --- Greensboro College’s Staci Humphrey
dropped in a team-high 17 points as the senior women
from the USA South Athletic Conference defeated
their counterparts from the Old Dominion Athletic
Conference (ODAC), 84-77, in the second annual ODAC/USA
South Senior Challenge.
Humphrey, who recorded a pair of triple-doubles
during the season, fell just short of a third with
eight assists and seven boards added to her score
line. Methodist College’s Stacy Williams added 12
points and four rebounds while Christopher Newport
University’s Dee Luck chipped in 10 markers and
seven boards.
Randolph-Macon College’s Salem Shaffer continued her
hot shooting as she led all scorers with 30 points
including an 8-for-12 showing from beyond the arc.
She also pulled down an ODAC-best nine rebounds.
Washington & Lee University’s Jessica Hunsinger was
added 14 points, seven rebounds and a pair of blocks
to the effort. Bridgewater College’s Katy Herr
Lovell recorded nine points and seven caroms to with
four assists.
Neither team could get much of an upper hand in the
opening quarter with the USA South ending the first
12 minutes of play with a two-point edge at 21-19.
The USA South opened up the scoring a bit more in
the second period, going into the half up seven at
40-33.
Shaffer caught fire through the final three
quarters, hitting for 18 points on 6-of-10 from the
field (4-of-6 from deep), but the Humphrey continued
to make timely plays for the USA South with
Shenandoah’s Cassie Womack and Luck pitching in
during crunch time.
Second chance opportunities also stifled any chance
of an ODAC comeback as the USA South commanded a
78-40 edge in rebounding with 34 boards coming via
the offensive glass.
The men’s edition of the 2007 ODAC/USA South Senior
Challenge was won by the
ODAC, 108-99. Christopher Newport University’s Donta
Selden led all scorers with 23 points to go with
eight assists and six rebounds. Shenandoah
University’s Mouktar Fawehinmi chipped in 12 points
and eight boards, and CNU’s Korey Lewis added 11
points and another eight rebounds. Greensboro
College’s James Newman registered 10 points.
