(FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.) - The NCAA Woman of the Year award honors student-athletes for their collegiate achievements in service, leadership, athletics and academics. The USA South Athletic Conference's 2007 Woman of the Year and nominee for the NCAA award is Christopher Newport University senior women's soccer player Ashley Glover. Glover, a defender for the Lady Captains, concluded her collegiate career this fall. Glover is a three-time All-Conference selection and helped CNU to three consecutive USA South Tournament Championships. Off the field, Glover has excelled by amassing a 3.99 GPA while majoring in biology. Glover was presented with the Robert S. Usry Award each of the last three years. She has been involved with tutoring elementary school children, volunteering at a local hospital and coaching youth and high school soccer teams. This honoree's name and accolades will now be forwarded to the NCAA Woman of the Year selection committee. The committee will choose the top ten nominees in each division (I, II and III). From among those 30 honorees, the selection committee will determine the top three in each division. From those nine, the 2007 NCAA Woman of the Year will be chosen. The top ten honorees from each division will be honored at a dinner in Indianapolis on October 27, 2007. Other student-athletes chosen as institutional Women of the Year were Kimberly Cox of Ferrum College, Kristen McGuire of Greensboro College, Courtney Tucker of North Carolina Wesleyan College, Charlotte Williams of Methodist University and Lauren Carpinello of Shenandoah University. |
