Christopher Newport Selected as USA South Lacrosse Favorite
(FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.) - Christopher Newport
University, under
the direction of sixth-year Head Coach Kwame Lloyd, was picked to win
the USA South Athletic Conference 2007 lacrosse title in the preseason coaches' poll.
Last spring, the
Captains captured the program's first USA South Tournament title and
earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament.
Christopher Newport received six of seven first-place votes (36 points) as head
coaches do not vote for their own teams in the balloting.
Greensboro College, the defending regular season champions, finished
second in the balloting as The Pride received 31 points and the
remaining first-place vote.
Methodist University rounded out the top-three as the
Monarchs collected 26 points.
The 2007 USA South Lacrosse Tournament will played at Springwood Park in Burlington, N.C. on April 14-15.
