USA South Lacrosse Awards Announced

(FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.) - The USA South Athletic Conference has announced its All-Conference awards for lacrosse.  A total of 35 student-athletes have been named to the USA South All-Conference teams for lacrosse.  Methodist University's Lauren McGonagle has been named the Player of the Year, Greensboro College's Christie Hebert is the Rookie of the Year and Christopher Newport University head coach Kwame Lloyd is the 2007 Coach of the Year.

For the second time in her career, McGonagle, a senior midfielder from South Burlington, Vermont, has been named the Conference's Player of the Year. McGonagle first received the honor in 2005 and it is the fourth consecutive season that a Monarch has received the award. This spring, McGonagle led the USA South in points (74), goals (49) and assists per game (1.79). Also, McGonagle led the Monarchs with 25 assists, 58 groundballs and 22 caused turnovers. This is the fourth consecutive season in which McGonagle, who helped Methodist to a 6-9 overall record and a 4-2 mark in league play, has received First Team All-Conference honors.

A freshman from Alexandria, Virginia, Hebert led all USA South rookies in scoring with 55 points on 45 goals and ten assists to go along with a league-best three game-winning goals. Hebert also contributed 16 ground balls and caused 13 turnovers during the season. She started every game for The Pride, helping the team to a 9-5 overall record and a 5-1 mark in league play. For her efforts, Hebert was named First-Team All Conference as an attacker.

Lloyd, in his sixth year at the helm of the Lady Captains, led the team to a 9-4 overall record and an undefeated, 6-0, mark in league play. CNU's USA South Regular Title was the fourth such title in the program's history. The nine overall wins are the second-most in school history while the six conference wins set a new program record.
