USA South Men's Basketball Tournament First Round Action

(FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.) - The 2007 USA South Men's Basketball Tournament has begun with all first round games being played on Tuesday, Feb. 20. Top-seeded Averett received a bye and will advance to the next round. Second-seeded Greensboro pulled away from seventh-seeded Shenandoah en route to an 86-75 victory. Sixth-seeded N.C. Wesleyan pulled off the first upset of the tournament, defeating third-seeded Christopher Newport, 71-69. The other upset was completed by fifth-seeded Ferrum who slipped by fourth-seeded Methodist, 77-71.

The tournament now shifts to Christopher Newport University on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 23-24, as the Captains host the semifinals and finals. On Friday, Averett will battle Ferrum in the first game at 4:00 p.m., followed by Greensboro taking on N.C. Wesleyan at 8:00 p.m. The championship game will be the following day at 4:00 p.m.
