USA South Men's Basketball Awards Announced

(FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.) - The USA South Athletic Conference has announced its All-Conference awards for men's basketball. A total of 15 student-athletes have been named to the USA South All-Conference teams for men's basketball. Lynn Bright of Greensboro College was chosen as the Player of the Year, Trey Drake from N.C. Wesleyan College was named the Rookie of the Year and Jimmy Allen of Averett collected Coach of the Year honors.

Bright, a junior from Orlando, Florida, led The Pride to a share of the USA South Regular Season Championship.  He averaged 17.2 points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.6 steals and 1.6 assists per game. Bright led The Pride in both points and rebounds pre game. He was named the league's player of the week twice on the season.  

A freshman from Emporia, Virginia, Drake had a stand-out year for the Battling Bishops. He averaged 14.7 points, 3.6 assists, 2.5 steals and 1.9 rebounds per game. Drake led all conference rookies in points, assists and steals per game. For the season, Drake was selected as the conference's rookie of the week seven times.

In his third year at the helm of the Cougars, Averett's Allen collects his second coach of the year honor. Allen guided Averett to its second consecutive Co-Regular Season USA South Championship. The Cougars finished the regular season with an overall record of 17-6 with a conference mark of 9-3. The Captains began the season with the best start in the program's history (9-0) which included a victory over Virginia Wesleyan, the defending national champions.
