Picked to Capture
Both Men's and Women's USA South Tennis Titles
(FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.) - Christopher Newport
University was
chosen to win the 2007 USA South Athletic Conference tennis title on
both the men's and women's side as the Conference released the preseason
coaches' poll.
The Captain men, under tenth-year Head Coach Rush Cole, received five of seven first-place votes (35 points) as head
coaches do not vote for their own teams in the balloting. CNU captured
both the USA South Regular Season and Tournament Championships last
spring.
Methodist University finished
second in the balloting with 32 points and the remaining two first-place votes.
Averett University rounded out the top-three as the Cougars
collected 21 points.
As for the women, Christopher Newport, under sixth-year Head Coach Jenny
Nuttycombe,
received six of eight first-place votes and 48 total points. The Lady
Captains captured last season's conference tournament championship.
Methodist University, the six-time defending regular season champions, finished
second in the balloting with 44 points and the remaining two first-place votes.
Greensboro College and Shenandoah University rounded out the top-four in
a tie with 31 points apiece.
The 2007 USA South Men's and Women's Tournaments will be played at the
Burlington Tennis Center in Burlington, N.C. on April 13-15.
