USA South Volleyball Tournament Underway
(FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.) - The 2007 USA South Volleyball Tournament began on Tuesday, October 30 as the top-four seeds advanced to the semifinals. In first round action, seventh-seeded Mary Baldwin defeated tenth-seeded Shenandoah, 3-0, while eighth-seeded Meredith defeated ninth-seeded Peace, 3-0. In second round play, top-seeded Christopher Newport handled Meredith, 3-0, second-seed Greensboro topped Mary Baldwin, 3-1, third-seeded Averett defeated sixth-seeded Methodist, 3-0, and fourth-seeded N.C. Wesleyan defeated fifth-seeded Ferrum, 3-0.
The tournament now shifts to the campus of top-seeded
Christopher Newport who will host the semifinal and championship
matches. In the first semifinal contest at 5 p.m. on Friday, November
2, Greensboro will take on Averett. In semifinal game number two at 7:30
p.m., N.C. Wesleyan will battle Christopher Newport. The winners of the
two matches will compete for the tournament title on Saturday, November
3 at 1:00 p.m.
