USA South Women's Basketball Awards Announced

(FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.) - The USA South Athletic Conference has announced its All-Conference awards for women's basketball. A total of 17 student-athletes have been named to the USA South All-Conference teams for women's basketball. Greensboro College's Staci Humphrey is the Player of the Year, Tonya Wright of Ferrum College is the Rookie of the Year while her coach, Bryan Harvey has been named the Coach of the Year. 

Humphrey, a senior from Pilot, Virginia, has been named the conference's top player for the second consecutive season. Humphrey led the league in a number of categories this winter. She averaged a league-best 24.4 points, 7.3 assists, 3.4 steals and 2.6 three-pointers per game. Humphrey was also tied for sixth in the conference in rebounding, averaging 7.4 per game. During the season, Humphrey collected two triple-doubles and was named the league's player of the week five times. Nationally, Humphrey is currently second in all of Division-III in scoring and assists per game.

A freshman from Bland, Virginia, Wright helped lead Ferrum to the USA South Regular Season Championship. For the season, Wright averaged 11.1 points and 5.6 rebounds per game, which each ranked third on the team. Wright was third in the conference with an 84.2 free throw percentage. During the winter, Wright earned league rookie of the week honors four times.

Harvey, in his second year as the head coach of the Panthers, led Ferrum to the program's first outright regular season crown and second league title overall. The Panthers last earned a championship by sharing the conference regular season title with Christopher Newport in 2003. The Panthers finished with an overall regular season record of 19-6 with a 12-2 mark in the USA South. This is Harvey's first coach of the year honor.
