USA South Women's Soccer Awards Announced

(FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.) - The USA South Athletic Conference has announced its All-Conference awards for women's soccer. A total of 40 student-athletes have been named to the USA South All-Conference teams. Greensboro's Ashley Cabral has been named the Player of the Year, Meredith's Alex Calvert is the Rookie of the Year and Christopher Newport head coach Kwame Lloyd is the Coach of the Year. The awards are voted on by the women's soccer coach at each institution. Also, for the first time, the USA South recognized an All-Sportsmanship Team, consisting of one member from each competing school.

Cabral, a senior forward from West Haven, Connecticut led The Pride offense this season. She led the USA South in both points and goals. On the year, Cabral tallied 57 points on 26 goals and five assists with a team-best six game-winning goals. Cabral was named First Team All-Conference for the second consecutive season and earned her fourth All-Conference honor of her career. She was named Second Team All-Conference in 2005 and Honorable Mention All-Conference in 2004. Finally, Cabral was named USA South Player of the Week three times this fall.

Calvert, a Wilson, North Carolina freshman midfielder, led the offense of Conference newcomer Meredith. For the year, Calvert tallied 29 points on 13 goals and three assists with a team-high three game winning goals. Calvert was named First Team All-Conference while also earning USA South Rookie of the Week honors once this fall.
