Christopher Newport Picked to Capture USA South Women's Soccer Title

(FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.) - Christopher Newport University, under the direction of seventh-year Head Coach Kwame Lloyd, was picked in the preseason coaches' poll to win the USA South Athletic Conference women's soccer title in 2007. The Captains had their streak of four consecutive regular season championships snapped last fall by Methodist University. CNU is however looking to capture its fourth consecutive USA South Tournament championship.

Christopher Newport received seven of ten first place votes (79 points) as head coaches do not vote for their own teams in the balloting.

Methodist, the defending regular season champions, finished second in the balloting with 73 points and two first place votes. Following CNU and Methodist, in a tie for third, were Greensboro College and USA South newcomer Meredith College who each received 60 points. The Pride received the final first place vote.

The women's regular season gets underway on Friday, August 31 when Ferrum College hosts Hollins College.
