USA South Women's Tennis Awards Announced

(FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.) - The USA South Athletic Conference has announced its All-Conference awards for women's tennis.  A total of 19 student-athletes have been named to the USA South All-Conference teams for women's tennis.  Greensboro College's Carrie Pacifico has been named the Player of the Year while Christopher Newport University's Liz Thedford has been named the Rookie of the Year and her coach, Jenny Nuttycombe, was named the 2007 Coach of the Year.

Pacifico, a junior from Charleston, West Virginia, earns her second Player of the Year honor in as many years. This season, Pacifico, playing at the number-one singles position, compiled a 17-2 overall record and an unblemished, 7-0, mark in USA South action. At the number-one doubles position, Pacifico teamed with Susan Harris 16 times and Michelle Lemmons once to earn an 11-6 overall record and a 5-2 mark in conference play. For her efforts this season, Pacifico collects her third consecutive First Team All-Conference honor.

Thedford, a freshman from Fredericksburg, Virginia, helped the Lady Captains by not losing a singles match this season. Playing primarily at the number-five position, Thedford compiled a 17-0 overall record and a 7-0 conference mark. In doubles action, playing at both the number-two and number-three positions, Thedford teamed with Chandler Long five times and Frannie Shiver twice to earn a 6-1 overall record and a 2-0 USA South mark. For her efforts this season, Thedford earns Honorable Mention All-Conference honors.

In her sixth season at the helm of the Lady Captains, Nuttycombe has earned USA South Coach of the Year honors for the second time. Nuttycombe led CNU to the program's first-ever undefeated regular season. The Lady Captains compiled an overall record of 19-0 and a USA South mark of 7-0. CNU's unbeaten conference record earns the program its second-ever USA South Women's Tennis Regular Season Championship. It is the first such title for the Lady Captains since the 1993 season.
