Methodist Picked to Defend USA South Golf Title

(FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.) - Methodist University, under the direction of 21st-year Head Coach Steve Conley, was picked to win the USA South Athletic Conference 2008 golf title in the preseason coaches' poll. Last spring, the Monarchs captured their fifth consecutive USA South Championship, their 25th title in program history.

Methodist received six of seven first-place votes (36 points) as head coaches do not vote for their own teams in the balloting.

Christopher Newport University finished second in the balloting with 29 points and the remaining first-place vote while Averett University placed third in the poll with 26 points. Greensboro College, the 2007 Conference runner-ups, rounded out the top-four with 21 points.

The 2008 USA South Golf Tournament will one again be played on the par 72, 7130-yard Stoney Creek Golf Club in Burlington, N.C. on April 18-20.
