USA South Men's Basketball Tournament First Round Action

(FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.) - The 2008 USA South Men's Basketball Tournament has begun with two of the three first round games being played on Tuesday, February 26. Top-seeded Methodist received a bye and will advance to the next round. Both contests were captured by the lower-seeded road team as sixth-seeded Greensboro defeated third-seeded Shenandoah, 63-59, while fifth-seeded Averett topped fourth-seeded Christopher Newport, 69-63.

The tournament's final first round game, seventh-seeded N.C. Wesleyan versus second-seeded Ferrum has been moved to Averett University and will be played tomorrow, Wednesday, February 27 at 7:30 p.m. Today's game between the Bishops and Panthers was postponed due to an incident on the Ferrum campus.

Following tomorrows contest, the tournament will shift to Christopher Newport University on Friday and Saturday, February 29-March 1, as the Captains host the semifinals and finals. On Friday, Averett will battle Methodist in the first game at 4:00 p.m., followed by Greensboro taking on the Ferrum/N.C. Wesleyan winner at 8:00 p.m. The championship game will be the following day at 4:00 p.m.
