February 26, 2008 USA South Women's Basketball Tournament First Round Action (FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.) - The 2008 USA South Women's Basketball Tournament has begun with three of the four first round games being played on Tuesday, February 25. Top-seeded Greensboro had little difficulty, defeating eighth-seeded N.C. Wesleyan, 89-51, second-seeded Christopher Newport cruised to a 75-30 win over seventh-seeded Averett and third-seeded Methodist topped sixth-seeded Mary Baldwin, 77-57. The tournament's final first round game, fifth-seeded Shenandoah versus fourth-seeded Ferrum has been moved to Averett University and will be played tomorrow, Wednesday, February 27 at 5:30 p.m. Today's game between the Hornets and Panthers was postponed due to an incident on the Ferrum campus. Following tomorrows contest, the tournament will shift to Christopher Newport University on Friday and Saturday, February 29-March 1, as the Captains host the semifinals and finals. On Friday, Greensboro will battle the Shenandoah/Ferrum winner in the first game at 2:00 p.m., followed by Christopher Newport taking on Methodist at 6:00 p.m. The championship game will be the following day at 2:00 p.m.
