USA South Women's Basketball Tournament Semifinals Set

(FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.) - The 2008 USA South Women's Basketball Tournament first round has concluded tonight, Wednesday, February 27, as fourth-seeded Ferrum defeated fifth-seeded Shenandoah, 91-51, in a game played at Averett University.

The first three first round games were played on Tuesday, February 26. Top-seeded Greensboro had little difficulty, defeating eighth-seeded N.C. Wesleyan, 89-51, second-seeded Christopher Newport cruised to a 75-30 win over seventh-seeded Averett and third-seeded Methodist topped sixth-seeded Mary Baldwin, 77-57.

The tournament now shifts to Christopher Newport University on Friday and Saturday, February 29-March 1, as the Captains host the semifinals and finals. On Friday, Greensboro will battle the Ferrum winner in the first game at 2:00 p.m., followed by Christopher Newport taking on Methodist at 6:00 p.m. The championship game will be the following day at 2:00 p.m.
