Advance to (NEWPORT NEWS, VA) - The 2008 USA South Women's Basketball Tournament semifinals concluded tonight, Friday, February 29, as the two top seeds, Greensboro and Christopher Newport, advanced to the finals. Top-seeded Greensboro and fourth-seeded Ferrum took part in a record-setting double-overtime thriller with The Pride coming out on top, 117-113. It was the first time in USA South Women's Tournament history in which both teams totaled at least 100 points. In addition, the game's 230 total points was also a tournament record. Finally, Greensboro's Dione Eccles scored a USA South single-game record 54 points. The second semifinal also went down to the wire as second-seeded Christopher Newport defeated third-seeded Methodist, 70-68. USA South Player of the Year, Chelsie Schweers, scored a game-high 26 points as the Captains held off a late Monarch rally to advance to the title game. The tournament championship game, at Christopher Newport University, will take place on Saturday, March 1 at 2:00 p.m. The Captains will be looking for their second consecutive championship while The Pride are attempting to capture their third title in the last four years.
