Greensboro Wins USA South Women's Basketball Tournament Championship

(NEWPORT NEWS, VA) - The 2008 USA South Women's Basketball Tournament concluded this afternoon, Saturday March 19, as top-seeded Greensboro College defeated second-seeded Christopher Newport University to win the championship and advance to the NCAA Division-III Tournament.

The Pride used a 28-point, nine-rebound performance by Danielle Duncan to help overcome an eight-point halftime deficit. Tournament Most Valuable Player, Dione Eccles of Greensboro, contributed a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds. For the tournament, Eccles scored a record 84 points, including a single-game record 54 points in The Pride's semifinal victory over Ferrum. For the Captains, Colandra Rollins and Chelsie Schweers led the way with 22 and 18 points, respectfully.

With the win, Greensboro captures its third tournament title in the last four years. The NCAA Tournament brackets will be announced on Monday, March 3 on ncaasports.com at approximately 9:00 a.m.
