USA South Women's Basketball Awards
Announced
(FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.) - The USA South Athletic
Conference has announced its All-Conference awards for women's
basketball. A total of 26 student-athletes have been named to the
USA South All-Conference teams for women's basketball. Christopher
Newport University's Chelsie Schweers becomes the first player in USA
South Women's Basketball history to earn both Player and Rookie of the
Year honors in the same season. Greensboro College's Jason Tuggle has
been named the Coach of the Year.
Schweers, a freshman from Chesapeake, Virginia, led the USA South in
scoring, averaging 21.9 points per game, and three-point field goals
made, with 73. She also averaged 5.0 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.4
steals per contest this winter. Schweers set CNU records for most
three-pointers in a game (10) and season (73), as well as, three-point
shooting percentage in a game (83%, 10-of-12) and season (46%,
73-of-159). Her ten three-pointers versus Peace on February 9, tied the
single-game USA South record. Schweers, who also was named First Team
All-Conference, collected five league rookie of the week honors this
season.
Tuggle, in his sixth year as the head coach of The Pride, led Greensboro
to the program's third regular season crown in the last four years. The
Pride finished the regular season with eight-consecutive wins, all
against Conference competition. Greensboro concluded the regular season
with an overall record of 18-7 and a 15-3 mark in the USA South. This is
Tuggle's third coach of the year honor in the last four years.
