USA South Women's Tennis Awards Announced

(FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.) - The USA South Athletic Conference has announced its All-Conference awards for women's tennis. A total of 25 student-athletes have been named to the teams. Greensboro College's Carrie Pacifico has been named the Player of the Year while Methodist University's Kaitlin Flaherty has been named the Rookie of the Year and her coach, Francie Barragan, was named the Coach of the Year. Also, for the first time, the USA South recognized an All-Sportsmanship Team, consisting of one member from each competing school. All honors are determined by votes from the women's tennis coach at each institution.

Pacifico, a senior from Charleston, West Virginia, earns her third consecutive Player of the Year honor. This season, Pacifico, playing at the number-one singles position, compiled a 18-1 overall record and an unblemished, 9-0, mark in USA South action. At the number-one doubles position, Pacifico teamed with Susan Harris to earn a 13-2 overall record and a 7-2 mark in conference play. For her efforts this season, Pacifico collects her fourth consecutive first team all-conference honor. Finally, Pacifico earned USA South Player of the Week honors three times this season.

Flaherty, a freshman from League City, Texas, playing primarily at the number-two singles position, compiled a 17-5 overall record and a 8-1 mark in USA South action. At the number-two doubles position, Flaherty, teaming mainly with Leighton Bull, earned a 15-5 overall record and a 7-2 mark in conference play. For her efforts this season, Flaherty collects a first team all-conference honor. Finally, Flaherty earned USA South Player of the Week honors four times this season.

In her third season at the helm of the Monarchs, Barragan has earned USA South Coach of the Year honors for the second time. Barragan led Methodist to the program's 13th regular season championship as the Monarchs compiled an overall record of 17-3 and an unblemished USA South mark of 9-0. The regular season crown is Methodist's seventh in the last eight seasons.
