May 27, 2009 Christopher Newport's Erin Wojtkun Named USA South Woman of the Year (FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.) - The NCAA Woman of the Year award honors student-athletes for their collegiate achievements in service, leadership, athletics and academics. The USA South Athletic Conference's 2009 Woman of the Year and nominee for the NCAA award is Christopher Newport University senior soccer player Erin Wojtkun. Wojtkun, a goalkeeper for the Captains, concluded her collegiate career this fall. Wojtkun is a three-time All-Conference performer and tops the Captain all-time list in goals-against-average and shutouts. Off the field, she has amassed a 3.48 GPA while majoring in Psychology with a leadership minor. Wojtkun was a member of the Dean's List four times and was recently accepted to the Masters of Arts program at Christopher Newport. Wojtkun is the current President of the USA South's Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and serves as the Conference's National SAAC representative to the NCAA. Additionally, she was recently chosen to become a member of the prestigious NCAA Management Council. Wojtkun has also donated her time to many worthy causes. She has been involved with CNU's President's Leadership Program, the Catholic Campus Ministry and P.A.R.T.Y. which is an acronym for Passionate Student Athletes Reaching Today's Youth. This honoree's name and accolades will now be forwarded to the NCAA Woman of the Year selection committee. The committee will choose the top ten nominees in each division (I, II and III). From among those 30 honorees, the selection committee will determine the top three in each division. From those nine, the 2009 NCAA Woman of the Year will be chosen. The top honorees from each division will be honored at a dinner in Indianapolis on October 18, 2009. Other student-athletes chosen as institutional Women of the Year were Lauren Rizzo of Ferrum College, Kendra Leghart of Greensboro College, Colena Roberts of Mary Baldwin College, Anna Buryk of Meredith College and Catherine Beuerle of Shenandoah University. |
