USA South Presents Cans Across the Conference Trophy to Shenandoah

(WINCHESTER, VA) - The USA South Athletic Conference presented its Cans Across the Conference Trophy to Shenandoah University at the Hornet's men's basketball game versus Greensboro on Saturday, January 23. USA South Commissioner Rita Wiggs was on hand to present Shenandoah Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Members the award.

In the fall of 2004, the USA South Athletic Conference Student-Athletic Advisory Committee established a Conference-wide canned food drive. A competition was set up amongst the USA South institutions to benefit local charities. The school collecting the most items during the competition would be the “Cans Across the Conference” champion.

Throughout the Conference, a record 29,303 items were collected and donated to organizations for distribution to needy families and individuals during this year's competition. After gathering a Conference-record 9,797 items, Shenandoah captured the 2009 Cans Across the Conference Championship.
