USA South Coaches and Teams Set For "Suits and Sneakers"

(FAYETTEVILLE, NC) - The USA South men's basketball programs are set to participate in the 2010 "Suits and Sneakers" awareness weekend on January 30-February 6. The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), in conjunction with the American Cancer Society, has created this initiative to unite coaches from across the country in the common effort to raise cancer awareness in their communities.

The NABC and the USA South are encouraging member coaches and their staff to wear sneakers with their suits to show support for the Coaches vs. Cancer program. This program is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches that empowers basketball coaches, their teams, and communities to join the fight against cancer. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of college and high school coaches and fans across the country, Coaches vs. Cancer participants have raised more than $55 million since 1993 to help the Society fund groundbreaking cancer research, provide up-to-date cancer information and education, advocate for public health policies that benefit communities, and deliver services that improve the quality of life for patients and their families. Additional information is available at coachesvscancer.org.

Many USA South teams will ask for donations at games during the "Suits and Sneakers" weekend. These funds will directly impact local cancer awareness organizations. USA South members will also participate in the "Pink Zone" women's basketball cancer awareness program which takes place on February 12-21.
