Shenandoah's Anderson Named to Aztec Bowl
December 5, 2002 The American Football Coaches Association has announced its 42-man roster for the Division III All-Star Team that will represent the United States against Mexico in the 2002 Aztec Bowl. The team is made up of seniors from the AFCA Division III Coaches' All-America Team, as well as selected Division III seniors from across the country. They will be led by Head Coach Ron Schipper as they face Mexico's top college players. Shenandoah's Gregg Anderson has been selected to play in the game, which will be played at Estadio Infierno Azul on the Monterrey Tech Laguna Campus in Torreon, Mexico on December 14. Anderson recorded 43 solo and 42 assisted tackles this season. He also had four interceptions, recovered three fumbles and broke up six passes. The Clifton, VA free safety was named First Team All-Conference in 2001 and 2002. He is Shenandoah's career leader in tackles and interceptions, as well as being their first ever player to be selected for the Aztec Bowl. The Aztec Bowl has traditionally been the season-ending game for Mexico's college football season. The game has been played 31 times since 1947. Prior to 1997, Mexico faced NCAA and NAIA colleges, junior colleges, armed forces teams and international teams. However, the last five years has featured the United States All-Star-Mexico match-up, with the US winning all five contests. For more information, go to the American Football Coaches
