Seven Dixie Men's Soccer Players Named to All-Region Team

December 9, 2002 – The National Soccer Coaches Association of America has announced its 2002 NCAA Division III Men's South Region Teams and seven DIAC athletes were among those honored. Greensboro's Reggie Koranteng and Duncan Edwards and N.C. Wesleyan's Shaun Oliveria were named to the First Team, while Christopher Newport's Joshua Shaw and GC's Michael Smith made the Second Team. Luis Collantes of Shenandoah and Ben Maxwell of Greensboro were named to the Third Team.

Oliveria, a senior from Richmond, VA, was the 2002 DIAC Player of the Year. He finished the season with 20 goals and seven assists. He is a three-time First Team All-Conference player. Koranteng, a Brampton, Ontario senior, had one goal and three assists as part of a defense that allowed only 1.17 goals per game this year. He was First Team All-Conference this season and was named to the Second Team in 2000. Edwards, from Paraparaumu, New Zealand, finished this season with 12 goals and nine assists. The senior is a four-time First Team All-Conference. Smith, a junior from Wellington, New Zealand, recorded two goals and four assists while helping the Pride to give up only 1.17 goals a game. He is a three-time First Team All-Conference. Shaw, who hails from Williamsburg, VA, had nine goals and three assists on the year. The senior was named First Team All-Conference this year and was Second Team in 2000 and 2001. Collantes, a sophomore from Alexandria, VA, finished this season with three goals and six assists. He was named Second Team All-Conference in 2002 and First Team in 2001. Maxwell, a Raleigh, NC sophomore, had 12 goals and three assists on the year. He was named First Team All-Conference this year and was on the Second Team in 2001.
