Five Men's Soccer Players Named to All-State Team

December 16, 2002 – Five Dixie Intercollegiate Athletic Conference players have been named to the 2002 VaSID College Division Men's Soccer All-State Team. Christopher Newport's Joshua Shaw made the First Team, while teammates Nick Yannitello and Shawn Edwards were named to the Second Team. Shenandoah's Will Scott and Luis Collantes also made the Second Team. The team is voted on by the Virginia Sports Information Directors, with nominees coming from any Division II, III, NAIA or NCAA affiliated school in Virginia.

Shaw, a senior from Williamsburg, VA, had nine goals and three assists this season. He was named First Team All-Conference in 2002 and Second Team in 2000 and 2001. He was also named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America's Second Team All-Region this season. Yannitello, a Williamsburg, VA sophomore, recorded eight goals and four assists on the year. He was named First Team All-Conference this season and Second Team in 2001. Edwards, a senior from Poquoson,VA, had one goal and one assist and was part of a defense that allowed 1.98 goals per game. He is a three-time Second Team All-Conference honoree. Scott, a senior who hails from Chesapeake, VA, recorded 11 goals and three assists this season. He was named First Team All-Conference in 2002 and 2001. Collantes, an Alexandria, VA sophomore, finished the year with three goals and six assists. He was named Second Team All-Conference in 2002 and First Team in 2001. He was also named to the NSCAA's Third Team All-Region.
