Ferrum's Venable Named All-American

December 20, 2002 – Ferrum's Darren Venable has been named to Don Hansen's Football Gazette Division III Third Team All-America. For the 13th year, the team was chosen by sports information directors across the country. First and Second Team All-Region players from each of the four NCAA football regions were eligible for the team.

Venable, a defensive back from Covington, VA, had a stellar sophomore year. He recorded 38 solo and 61 assisted tackles on his way to being named DIAC Defensive Player of the Year. He was named First Team All-Conference in 2002 and 2001. This season he was also First Team All-Region and First Team All-State.
