May 10, 2004 - The USA South Athletic Conference has
received a grant from Bank of America, it was
announced by Commissioner Rita Wiggs. The $5,000 grant will be used to
support the Conference's Scholar Athlete program. Mike Bordone,
Vice President of Investments, presented a check to Commissioner Wiggs
at the USA South office earlier today.
"This
grant and partnership with Bank of America will provide funding for our
Scholar Athlete program," said Wiggs. "The student-athletes
receiving these awards embody the Bank of America 'Higher Standards'
motto. Approximately 450 student-athletes representing our nine
institutions will be honored annually."
The USA South Scholar Athlete program recognizes those who have excelled
in the classroom. A student-athlete must have earned a 3.0 GPA in
each of the two semesters in a given year to be eligible. Any
student-athlete participating in any varsity sport at any Conference
institution is eligible. The sport does not have to be a
Conference-sponsored sport. There were more than 400 Scholar
Athletes honored in the 2002-2003 school year. The awards have not
yet been given out for 2003-2004.
