Two Greensboro Soccer Players Named All-State

December 3, 2003 – The North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) has selected its inaugural College Division All-State Men’s Soccer Team. The All-State soccer teams include one goalkeeper, three defenders, four midfielders and three forwards.

The team consists of NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA student-athletes from North Carolina colleges and universities.  Nominees were submitted by North Carolina sports information professionals.  NCCSIA members voted for the all-state teams.

Founded in 2002, The North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) is comprised of sports information professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions from the state of North Carolina.  The purpose of the organization is to promote collegiate athletics at all schools.  Membership is open to anyone affiliated with a college, university or conference located in North Carolina, and whose area of responsibility lies within sports information.  NCSSIA will select all-state teams for softball and baseball in the spring.

Michael C. Smith and Aaron Holcomb represented USA South Champion Greensboro College on the all-state team.  A senior defender from Tawa, New Zealand, Smith was a four-time, first-team all-league choice who scored twice and assisted on two other goals and helped his club again reach the NCAA Division III playoffs.  A junior midfielder from Pickertington, Ohio, Holcomb tallied six goals and seven assists and was a second-team All-USA South selection for the 14-4-3 Pride.
