USA South Well Represented On International Softball Team

(FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.) - The 2006 USA Athletes International softball team, lead by Peace College head coach Charlie Dobbins returned Monday after touring Europe from July 23rd - 31st. 

The USA Team played a three-game series against Hercules Barcelona, a Spanish A league pro team based in Barcelona Spain, and the traveled to France to compete in a three-game series against the French National team.

This team is composed of those with college eligibility or those who just completed their collegiate eligibility. The team is comprised of 14 players with nine players from the USA South Conference, headquartered in Fayetteville NC, with the schools regionally located within North Carolina and Virginia.

Amy Faucette, Rebekah Kelly and Jenny Sorensen (Methodist College), Niki Dobbins, Sarah Heenan, and Nicole Shoemaker (Peace College), Libby Fulford (NC Wesleyan College), Meagan Knight (Greensboro College) and CJ McQueen, (Christopher Newport University) round out the USA South representatives.

Jaimee Cassidy and Jody McCurdy (Pfeiffer University), Kylie Childress (Lambuth University) and Mallory Meyer (Widener College) round out the collegiate players. Haley Suitt, (South Granville HS, Oxford NC) completes the roster.

JD McCurdy, head softball coach at Eastern Mennonite University and Rob Faucette, former head coach with the NC Challengers completed the coaching staff for the U.S.A. Team.

Led by head coach Charlie Dobbins (Raleigh NC,/head coach Peace College) the U.S. swept the three-game series with Hercules, that was played in Barcelona Spain. The team traveled to Mont Pelletier, France where they swept the weekend three-game series against the French National team.

“I had a great group of kids along with a tremendous staff,” said Dobbins. “I loved the attitude of this group and they were wonderful to work with. We only had a few days to prepare and the team adapted well and was ready to play. ”

USA Athletes International, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to giving amateur athletes and coaches the opportunity to participate in International Olympic style sporting events throughout the world, while also allowing them to broaden their educational and cultural knowledge of the world through the experience.

I
