DIAC Basketball All-Conference Players Named

February 26, 2002 - The Dixie Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has announced its 2002-2003 men's and women's basketball All-Conference selections.  The players are voted on by the basketball coaches and Sports Information Directors at each institution. 

Christopher Newport's Terry Gray has been chosen as the Men's Basketball Player of the Year.  The senior from Norfolk, VA averaged 15.7 points and 9.3 rebounds this year.  His teammate, Mark Hepner, was named Rookie of the Year.  The Woodstock, VA freshman averaged 6.8 points and 5.6 rebounds per game this season.  Methodist's David Smith is the 2002-2003 Men's Basketball Coach of the Year.  In his fourth year at Methodist, he led the Monarchs to a 16-9 overall record, including going 12-2 in conference play, which earned them a share of the Conference regular season title. 

Tia Moore, of CNU, is the Women's Basketball Player of the Year.  The senior from Washington, D.C. averaged 16.4 points and 9 rebounds a game this season.  Shenandoah's Dee Fisher has been chosen as the Rookie of the Year.  The Arlington, VA freshman scored 16 points a game to go along with 6.2 rebounds.  Ferrum's Donna Doonan and Greensboro's Jason Tuggle have been named Co-Coaches of the Year.  In her 27th season, Doonan led the Panthers to an 18-7 overall record and 10-4 conference record.  Her team finished the year tied for the regular season title.  Tuggle, in his first season at Greensboro, led the Pride to a 15-8 overall record, including going 9-5 in conference play.
