December 5, 2003 - The Virginia Sports Information Directors have announced their 2003 All-State Volleyball team and seven USA South players are among those honored.  Averett's Courtney Carrington leads the pack, as she has been named VaSID's Player of the Year.

Carrington, a senior outside hitter from Yadkinville, NC, earned 2003 USA South Conference Player of the Year honors after she helped the Cougars to a 31-10 overall record and a conference tournament championship. She averaged 2.99 kills per game, but was also a solid defender, while passing 2.59 digs an outing. Carrington was named to the All-USA South Tournament Team and was selected to the All-VaSID second team in 2002. She finished her career with 991 kills and 1,186 digs.

Fellow Cougar Courtney Peters was the only other USA South player to be named to the First Team All-State.  Peters led Averett in kills (3.33 kills per game), and ranked second in the nation with a .452 hitting percentage. The sophomore middle hitter from Henrico, NC earned All-USA South first team honors, as well as USA South Tournament MVP honors. Peters was twice named the conference Player of the Week, and was an honorable mention on the All-South Region Team.
