Five Football Players Named All-Region

December 5, 2003 – Don Hansen's Weekly Football Gazette sponsors the only NCAA Division III All-Region teams and for the 14th consecutive season, Sports Information Directors from the South region have chosen the 2003 Football Gazette All-South Region Teams.  A total of 78 players were chosen from the 63 schools that sponsor football in the South.  Five of those players are from the USA South.  The first and second team selections will now be on a national ballot that will chose the Football Gazette's All-American team. 

Ferrum's Darren Venable was the only USA South player to be named to the First Team All-Region.  The junior defensive back is the two-time reigning USA South Defensive Player of the Year.  The Covington, VA native recorded 32 solo and 42 assisted tackles on the year. 

Christopher Newport's Aaron Bennett and Ian Vincent were both named to the Third Team.  Bennett, a junior offensive lineman from Asheville, NC, is a three-time First Team All-Conference member.  Vincent, a defensive lineman form Lorton, VA, is a two-time Second Team All-Conference member.  He recorded 22 solo and 9 assisted tackles this season. 

Shenandoah's Lamont Moore was also named to the Third Team All-South Region.  The offensive lineman from Reston, VA was named to the First Team All-Conference in 2003 and was a Second Team member in 2002. 

Averett's Kelvin Hutcheson rounds out the USA South representatives on the All-Region Team.  The linebacker from Bracey, VA was also named to the Third Team.  He is a two-time First Team All-Conference member.  Hutcheson recorded 40 solo and 49 assisted tackles for the Cougars this year.
